Tulum Ruins-so hot, packed with people, but absolutely stunning!
Snorkeling in a Cenote we went to after Tulum.
The ruins of COBA. These are Mayan temples that are inland from Tulum and south of Chichen Itza. They are not as popular but you can climb still climb to the top which you can no longer do at the other two more visited sites.
The main pyramid is 4 miles round trip from the entrance gate so we rented bikes for 30 pesos-best 6 bucks ever spent!
This is the main temple Nohoch Mul. It is 136 ft tall and we climb to the top. I have a slight fear of heights-it is induced by crumbly stone steps dating from 600 to 900 AD and a robe for a hand rail! I took it slow...I did not want to be the latest Mayan Sacrifice!

The green jungle in the background. Coba was discovered in the 1890s and some of the buildings were excavated in the 1970s. It is said to contain 6500 structures. We only saw about 10 that were uncovered! It was totally like being on the set of an Indiana Jones movie.
This is the ball court along with entrances on both sides of the court for the teams.
The road between the ruins of Coba and Tulum has lots of little Indian communities built along it. The people have their own Mayan dialect that they speak as their primary language and a lot of them speak Spanish. They live in humble homes made of sticks. I took a picture of one I liked
Then I saw a sign for natural honey and had to stop to check out what they were selling. I bought honey candy and skin products made from Yucatan Aloe and Honey the merchant harvested himself. He showed me pictures of his bee houses and pictures of him and his Dad harvesting. The candy was amazing and the aloe worked on a the patches of red spots from being in the sun the whole day.
We drove a little further and stopped to get mango with lemon and chili. This little girl and her mom sold it to me. She was really shy at first but I offered her some candy and she warmed up to us. None of the kids were wearing any shoes. I am such a sissy I won't last a week!
Here is the produce they were selling. The bags of red stuff are dried chili's.
That night we went to Playa del Carmen and had dinner there. It was really good. I had mole enchiladads. Then we walked around quinta avenida...it has all sorts of merchants lining the street. Gabby kept talking about a butterfly lucha libre mask she had seen so we looked around for that. We didn't find it but we took some pictures in some man's shop that got really mad because we were using his merchandise and not actually buying stuff. I noticed he was starting to get mad so I pretended Micah was calling me and got out of there before he said anything. When I looked over to see if the girls had followed me he was shaking his head, scowling, and mumbling stuff to them. It was the funniest thing!
After the shopping or looking-I should say- we decided to get massages to relax from all the stress of being on vacation :)
It was the best massage I have ever gotten! After the massage we drove back to the hotel and slept like babies!
These are pictures of our trip to Isla Mujures. We took the local ferry. They let us sit on the nose of the boat. This was one of the highlights of our trip.
